New ISEB certificate in IT Architecture from the BCS
The only certainty in today's IT environment is change. Even as IT managers and professionals are busy
trying to deploy the current platforms, new technology is emerging all the time with web services, mobile, on-demand
and utility computing, to name but a few, at the forefront.
The management of change is critical to successfully keeping exploiting the advantages of new
technology while minimising the risk to the stability and security of existing systems.
More than ever, organisations need to
look at the bigger picture, recognising that IT projects are part of a larger organisation,
rather than implementing stand-alone solutions to individual IT challenges.
Recognising a general trend over the years towards a more engineering-based approach to IT and the increasing
role of the IT Architect, the BCS, through its Education and Certification arm have created a new
qualification aimed at people working or aspiring to work as
IT Architects.
The ISEB says "people achieving the new Certificate in IT Architecture would be able to provide technology
vision to an organization and technical leadership to a design team; understand the IT architect’s roles; show
awareness of IT issues in the business context and how these can help determine return on
investment; understand the relationships between systems architecture and systems
development; and show awareness of tools and techniques typically used by an IT architect".
CTK's IT Director and resident IT Architect, John Sanderson, who helped to develop the new certificate, remains
involved as part of the examination board and training provider accreditation panel. John says that "this represents
a great step forward in placing the IT industry on a more professional level and will help to encourage 'systems thinking'
when implementing new technology based solutions and processes".
